patriot cake

TO ALL OF OUR VETERANS!!!!!!

Thank you for your service!!!!!!

Veterans Day is a day to celebrate all of our veterans who have protected us throughout the many years. This holiday should NOT go unnoticed as these brave men and women made many sacrifices and unselfishly provided comfort and safety into the lives of others. Veterans should ALWAYS be remembered for their bravery, courage and sacrifice!!! It is an honor to salute these heroes!!!!! These men and women have enabled people from all over the world to live and sleep peacefully by simply providing civilians with protection each and every night from enemies near and far. It is very important to remember, respect, appreciate and honor these brave men and women who served in the armed forces! The best quote that I have heard came from General Patton is “America without her soldiers would be like God without his angels.” After the draft, men and women signed up, mostly voluntarily, to protect the United States and its allies. These military branches include the Marines, Navy, Air Force and Army, reserved and active duty personnel. Again, thank you ALL for your service!

To salute and honor all of the veterans on their special recognition day, I usually make my Patriot Cake or some food design representing the flag or its colors. This cake symbolizes the patriotism that is instilled in me, as many of my family members have served in the military in all branches of the armed forces. This is my way of recognizing them on this special holiday. So, if you want to follow along and make this patriotic cake for that special military veteran in your family, here is everything you need to know to get started! “ten hut”

Ingredients:
Cake Batter
Flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, vanilla, milk, egg whites, butter, and oil.

Frosting:
Red and blue gel food coloring, confectioner sugar, milk, vanilla

Tool/Equipment
Stand or hand mixer, medium sized bowls, rubber spatula, whisk, bundt pan, pastry bags

Directions:

Step One – Using the stand mixer with the paddle attachment, cream butter and sugar until blended together. Usually, this is the first step when baking most food products.

Step Two – Add egg whites, oil, vanilla and milk to the mixer, mix all ingredients together until batter is smooth in texture.

Step Three – Using a whisk, combine the dry ingredients together, flour, baking powder and salt. Add to the mixture with the liquid batter. Mix for a few seconds until all ingredients are combined. Do not overmix this batter as you will get a different cake texture.

Step Four – Using two medium sized bowls, divide batter in equal amounts.

Step Five – Starting with one drop of food coloring until reaching the desired color, add one to two drops of red food coloring in one bowl . Add one- two drops of blue food coloring to the next bowl of frosting. Continue to add drops until reaching the desired color.

Step Six – In a greased bundt pan, add the red batter, moving the batter to evenly be distributed to the bottom of the pan, add the white batter evenly over the red batter. Continue with the blue batter, spreading evenly over the white batter.

Step Seven – Place in the oven and bake at 350 degrees F. for 35 – 45 minutes. Once done, remove to let cool.

Step Eight – After the cake cools, using a butter knife, go around the edges of the cake to loosen. Also, lightly shake the bundt pan to loosen the cake. This determines that it is not stuck to the pan, once it starts moving in the pan.

Using a plate, place the plate face down onto the bundt pan and flip over. The bundt pan design will be shown. Set aside and cool for additional minutes.

Step Nine – This is where the fun begins. Make the icing. Get the Icing Recipe here.

Step Ten – Separate icing equally into three bowls. Add one drop of blue food coloring to one bowl. Add one drop of red food coloring to the other bowl. Leave the third bowl with white icing. Add each color to its own pastry bag.

Step Eleven – Starting from the part of the inside top of the cake, take a red pastry bag, make a line to come down from the cake. Repeat the same process with the blue pastry bag, then the same with the white pastry bag. Continue until the whole cake is designed with this red, white and blue patriotic design. Fun, Fun, Fun and ooh so pretty!!!!! This cake is not only pretty, it also tastes very good!!!!!

This is a great project to entertain kids and their friends while teaching them all the reasons why they are off from school on Veterans Day. Veterans Day is a day to honor the men and women who have served in the military and sacrificed their lives for our safety! This cake can be made for the Fourth of July and the Marine Corp Birthday as well.

Ooh Rah!!!!
