The Best Cinnamon Rolls

Ingredients
  

Dough Ingredients:

  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons dry active yeast
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 5 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 5 cups flour

Filling Ingredients:

  • 13 tablespoons melted butter divided
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup raisins or cranberries

Frosting Ingredients:

  • 4 ounces cream cheese
  • 3 tablespoons butter softened
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar sifted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions
 

Make Dough:

  • In a liquid measuring cup, add yeast and warm milk. Set aside.
  • In a stand mixer, add egg, melted butter, sugar and salt. Beat until all ingredients are mixed together.
  • Add yeast mixture and mix for a few seconds.
  • Gradually add flour until your dough is not touching the sides of the bowl and is soft, smooth and elastic.
  • Lightly spray a large bowl. Place dough into the sprayed bowl. Cover and let dough sit for 20 minutes and doubles in size.

Make Filling:

  • In a large bowl, add half of the butter, brown sugar and cinnamon. Mix well. Set aside.
  • Using a large cutting board, lightly coat with flour, punch down and roll out dough into a rectangular shape. (covering the majority of the cutting board), spread brown sugar mixture over the entire dough, sprinkle raisins on top of sugar mixture.
  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
  • Starting from the widest end, roll dough tightly into a jelly roll.
  • Using sewing thread or a bench scraper, cut dough down the middle making twelve cinnamon rolls.
  • Place cut cinnamon rolls in a lightly sprayed baking dish.
  • Stir together remaining butter and milk and pour over shaped cinnamon rolls.
  • Place in the preheated oven for 25 - 30 minutes.

Make Frosting:

  • In a stand or hand mixer, cream the cheese and butter, add vanilla then gradually add powdered sugar.
  • Spread cream cheese frosting on top of baked cinnamon rolls.
